Putintseva v Osaka

World no 2, Naomi Osaka was stunned by World no. 39, Yulia Putintseva, 7-6, 6-2 in the first round. Putinseva is a great Tennis player, but it was not expected from her to defeat the Japenese star. Well, Osaka made a total of 38 unforced errors as compared to Putinseva’s seven. Osaka cut a devastated figure as she failed to find her form against Putinseva, who was making her first appearance on center court.

Opelka v Wawrinka

Reilly Opelka caused a big upset at the Championships when he knocked down two-time former quarterfinalist, Stan Wawrinka. The young American is 6ft 11 and the tallest player ever to play on tour. In his debut at Wimbledon, he recorded a 7-5, 3-6, 4-6, 6-4, 8-6 victory over No. 22 Wawrinka in three hours and 13 minutes. His 2nd round 5 set victory over the 3 time Grand Slam champion included 23 aces, an average second serve speed of 107mph plus the fastest serve of 142 mph.

Fabbiano v Tsitsipas

Thomas Fabbiano defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3. In fact, Fabbiano had never won a set against a Top 20 opponent. However, the 30-year-old stunned the sixth seed, Tsitsipas, in 91 minutes to reach the second round of the Championships.

Nadal v Kyrgios

Rafael Nadal beat Nick Kyrgios in a highly charged clash full of drama. The way Nadal came up with everything that was thrown at him was truly astonishing. Nadal held off an in-form Kyrgios 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(3) on Centre Court to reach the third round. It was a match full of drama with Kyrgios constantly complaining to the umpire about Nadal’s pace of play and at one point a champagne cork even landed on the court. Nadal’s concentration and focus throughout to win the match was quite astounding.

Gauff v Williams

Cori Gauff defeated Venus Williams 6-4, 6-4 in straight sets. This was the most shocking match at the 2019 Wimbledon. The 15-year-old Gauff beat Williams in the first round on center court. The way the lesser-known player, Gauff destroyed a legend, Williams was truly astounding.
