PV Sindhu: Thrilled to Compete in Lucknow’s Syed Modi Tournament Again

wo-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu has returned to Lucknow to participate in the Syed Modi India International Badminton Championship 2024. Known for her remarkable achievements, Sindhu is eager to reclaim her form following challenging performances at the Paris Olympics and the China Masters.

In an interview with TOI, Sindhu, who defeated Anmol Kharb 21-17, 21-15 in her first-round match, reflected on her long association with the tournament, calling it a “prestigious event” that holds a special place in her career.

“It’s wonderful to be back here after missing last year due to injury. Lucknow has always been a happy hunting ground for me,” said Sindhu.

When asked about the tournament’s role in nurturing young talent, Sindhu highlighted its importance, saying, “This event gives budding players exposure to strong competition, helping them refine their skills and gain valuable experience.”

As for the potential “next PV Sindhu,” she expressed optimism about the future of Indian badminton. “There’s immense potential among junior players. With hard work and the right guidance, they’ll soon shine,” she said.

Reflecting on her recent matches, Sindhu acknowledged areas for improvement. “The China Masters had its moments, but I need to address some close-match errors. The goal is to come back stronger,” she admitted.

Looking ahead, Sindhu is focusing on major tournaments like the World Championships and the 2025 season, which includes the Malaysia, India, and Indonesia Opens. The Syed Modi tournament serves as a crucial stepping stone for her preparations.

Sindhu also touched on the evolving dynamics of badminton, emphasizing the significance of both singles and doubles events. “Each event is important in its own way,” she remarked.
