However, it was a tough day for the rest of the Indian contingent. HS Prannoy fought valiantly in a thrilling three-game match against China’s seventh seed Li Shi Feng but ultimately fell short, losing 8-21, 21-15, 21-23.
The women’s doubles pair Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand also faced heartbreak. After clinching the first game, they were unable to maintain their momentum against China’s Jia Yi Fan and Shu Xian Zhang, losing 21-15, 18-21, 19-21 despite leading 17-14 in the second game.
In mixed doubles, Indian pairs Satish Karunakaran-Aadhya Variyath and Dhruv Kapila-Tanisha Crasto exited with straight-game defeats. Satish and Aadhya were beaten by Malaysia’s Goh Soon Huat and Lai Shevon Jemie 10-21, 17-21, while Dhruv and Tanisha fell to China’s Cheng Xing and Chang Chi 13-21, 20-22.
In women’s singles, Malvika Bansod couldn’t overcome China’s Han Yue, losing 18-21, 11-21 in the final match of the day.
Satwik and Chirag, who have a strong record against their next opponents, Malaysia’s Ong Yew Sin and Ee Yi Teo, will aim to continue their fine form on Friday. The Indian pair has won five of their 10 previous encounters, including several recent victories, establishing their dominance.
The tournament continues to promise thrilling action, with the Indian duo carrying the nation’s hopes forward.
