2024 National Sports Awards: Full List of Khel Ratna, Arjuna, Dronacharya & More
The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MYAS) has announced the 2024 National Sports Awards winners, with D Gukesh, Manu Bhaker, Harmanpreet Singh, and Praveen Kumar receiving the highest honors.
D Gukesh made history as Singapore’s youngest World Chess Champion in December. Manu Bhaker secured two bronze medals at the Paris Olympics. Harmanpreet Singh captained the Indian men’s hockey team to a bronze medal at the same Games, while Praveen Kumar claimed gold in the men’s high jump T64 event at the Paris Paralympics.
The awards ceremony will take place at Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 17, 2025, at 11:00 AM, with the President of India presenting the awards. After a comprehensive evaluation process and committee recommendations, the government has finalized the list of athletes, coaches, universities, and organizations to be honored.

The National Sports Awards are a prestigious annual event celebrating sporting excellence in India. The Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award is presented to the sportsperson who has shown exceptional performance in sports over the last four years. This award recognizes remarkable achievements in the field of sports during that period.
The Arjuna Award for Outstanding Performance in Sports and Games is given to athletes who have excelled over the past four years while demonstrating leadership, sportsmanship, and discipline.
The Arjuna Award (Lifetime) is meant to honor athletes who have made significant contributions to sports through their performances and continue to promote the sport even after retiring from active competition.
The Dronacharya Award for Outstanding Coaches in Sports and Games is conferred upon coaches who consistently deliver exceptional results, enabling athletes to shine in international competitions.
Many applications were reviewed by a selection committee led by Justice (Retd.) V. Ramasubramanian of the Supreme Court of India. The committee also included renowned sportspersons, sports journalists, and sports administrators.
